This year's MTV VMA Awards ceremony held in Newark, New Jersey was a festive affair where dark skin women stood out as the protagonists of Monday evening's celebrations and salutations. From Lizzo's 'red siren' grand entrance to Normani's enviable sculpted abs to Hip Hop legend Missy Elliot's Video Vangaurd award acceptance speech and performance - it's clear that the VMAs belonged to black women in all their glory.

In addition to the electric performances given by our fave trailblazing female music artists, the red carpet gave us plenty to appreciate. While the 'blazer and thigh high boots' ensemble was something of a dominant look on this red carpet, it appears that all that glitters is still gold in celebville.
