The Oscar-winning actress opted to skip this year's red carpet, which is a real shame because she wore the most stunning gown for the occasion, reported Harper’s Bazaar.
Page Six also reported that the actress arrived wearing a show-stopping one-shoulder Oscar de la Renta dress covered in white feathers that retails for $22,290 (R 308 843), along with Roger Vivier sandals featuring bedazzled buckles worth around $1,000 (R13 855), judging by similar styles by the designer.
But it was Lupita’s ring that sent her outfit price tag soaring, According to Variety, the “Wakanda Forever” bespoke ring is worth more than $2 million (R27.7 million) dollars, and was designed specifically for the actress, who wanted to honor her Oscar-nominated film, as well as her work with the Time’s Up movement through her jewels.
The star commissioned jewelry designer Zameer Kassam to create the bespoke ring for the big night which was 42.46 carats worth of Forevermark diamonds to the fête, including intricate earrings, a two-stone ring and two different pear-shaped rings, reported Page Six.
Nyong’o’s stylist Micaela Erlanger shared a behind-the-scenes snap of the star’s look captioned “Better late than never, when you’re wearing feathers.”
