Queen Elizabeth’s dresser, Angela Kelly, revealed the bizarre way the queen keeps her diamonds sparkling in her new book, The Other Side of the Coin: The Queen, the Dresser and the Wardrobe, that the Queen is a “very modest lady,” Daily Express reports.
The author went on to reveal that Her Majesty uses a mixture of gin and water to clean her beloved jewels. She went on to say the queen also makes use of dishwashing liquid and water to get rid of hairspray stains.
In her memoir, Angela also revealed that the Queen lives modestly, Daily Mail reports.
Out of the 775 rooms in the palace, the 93-year-old monarch only uses a handful. These include her private rooms: her bedroom, sitting room, dressing room and bathroom. She uses the Audience Room to host important guests, such as the prime minister and other dignitaries, and the Empire Room as a waiting room.
“These rooms aren’t vast and there’s space for very little furniture, just the odd wardrobe or chest of drawers,” Angela revealed.
“The only gentlemen that I’ve ever known to enter these [private] rooms are the Duke of Edinburgh and other members of the Royal Family, because the Queen’s privacy is the absolute priority among her personal staff.
“There’ll always be people who’ll say anything for attention.”
