Shopping for a winter coat is kind of like shopping for a wedding dress: it needs to be approached with discipline.
Every year I yearn, I long for the perfect winter coat. Yet end up opting for the same old staple: a black coat so boring it makes watching paint dry seem like a fun activity.
I plan to find one that a) will keep me warm (Cape Town warm, not Reykjavík warm) b) I can afford (no black market organ selling for me this year) and c) wear with everything and wear every day (because, lazy).
After doing a bit of research, I have found coats aplenty. My current favourite types include:
Faux fur coats - pretty self explanatory, faux fur is warm, comforting and cruelty-free
Colourful vintage-inspired bouclé coats - a tough material, these coats tend to have a very unique silhouette with a notched round neck and oversized pockets
Hooded coats - because who always carries an umbrella?
Cocoon coats - a cocoon shaped coat is literally shaped like a pod, is oversized and has a signature drop shoulder.
