On Thursday night the darlings of cool in Johannesburg braved the winter chill to check out the Guess Originals spring collection at The Tin Factory in Johannesburg.
Celebrating its 35th anniversary, the iconic denim brand revealed its capsule collection and advertising campaign featuring Hailey Baldwin, alongside heart-throb Stefano Sala.
It’s pretty cool that the Guess Originals 1981 anniversary capsule is keeping with the unique stone-washed and hand-treated denim techniques developed by the Marciano brothers back in the 80s. Pieces for the new collection will be equal parts modern and vintage, the denim-heavy women’s assortment has a range of jeans, skirts, jackets, vests and chambray shirts in a variety of both oversized and fitted designs.
As you know, the 90s logo-mania has returned and is making a big statement in the brand’s stone-washed denims with logo letter appliqué, archival embroidery patches and laser printing to update the modern aesthetic and lend a classic touch to the 90s era varsity look.
There are oversized longline tees and vests that can be styled as dresses and worn over baggy high-waisted jeans for a more laid-back, vintage vibe. My favourite, form-fitting bodysuits as well as cropped tops, racerback tanks and sweatshirts stamped with a classic Guess logo for a little bit of sexy.
The collection is amazing! So following international launches that had us all jealous, it was South Africa’s turn on Thursday with the brand gifting guests with 1981 Guess fragrance and yummy Bombay Sapphire gin at a bar that kept the party going like a well-oiled machine.
The event was attended by celebrities and socialites that are well-suited for the brand including actress Jessica Nkosi, TV personality K Naomi, “Gqom Queen” Babes Wodumo, “Skhanda Queen” Nomuzi Mabena and all-round talent Lalla Hirayama with a very handsome man I am going to assume is the new lucky boyfriend. (There have been tons of complaints and sadness about this possibility on social media). Babes Wodumo looked her absolute best ... her new management team is doing wonders for her brand.
