No matter whether you are an Instagram style star in the making or someone who matches brown pants to a brown knit thinking "Mmm, peeerfect"*, there are some significant fashion challenges in every adult woman's life that gives her pause.
*You're wrong, by the way. So very wrong.
Style challenge #1: Dressing to make your ex jealous
So, you are going to a party and just heard that your ex will be there. It was a messy break-up and it's still not clear as to who exactly "won". But you want to win. Desperately.
This is what you must consider: your ex won't know what your outfit costs, so no need to break the bank. All you need is a dress/jumpsuit (not necessarily red, please) that says: here are my curves.
So go out, get a dress/jumpsuit that hugs your bum. No need for excessive cleavage. Don't over do it, don't overthink it. But channel Beyoncé when you enter the room.
Style challenge #2: Meeting the parents for the first time
Please avoid going all Charlotte York on us now. Cardigan, pencil skirt and ribbon headbands - be gone! Rather opt for a high-waisted pair of black chiffon trousers and a top that won't reveal too much in case of a brisk wind. And wear block heels that are comfy but still give you height - it will give you confidence even as the mother gives you vacant stares.
Style challenge #3: The blind date
Having no idea what kind of guy you're meeting sounds almost as scary as spending a night with the bigots from the Westboro Baptist Church. But it doesn't have to be. It can easily be time for that fashion change you've been dreading. So, here's what you do:
a) Don't wear black
b) Don't wear a dress
c) Wear something romantic but boyish at the same time - this will say you are chilled out but keen to flirt.
Style challenge #4: First day at a new job
Think your job interview outfit is very important? Nailing the outfit you wear on the first day of your new job is even more crucial. But no pressure.
Play it safe and wear pants, a jacket and a top (not a shirt) with boots or a casual pair of loafers. But keep it modern with a bright lip or single colour accent like a red neckpiece. Stand out, but blend in at the same time.
Style challenge #5: Your partner's work function
Channel Blake Lively. Wear a dress that is sexy but not super revealing. And if you have hair, work that hair, baby.
