While the fashion season continues, the January of fashion – as some call it – has come to an end. September is arguably the busiest month in fashion, not only for the luxury brands showing on their allotted slots in fashion month but for fashion enthusiasts as well.
Aside from the numbers of fashion editors, bloggers, celebrities and influencers trolling the streets of the various fashion capitals, fashion lovers on social media were equally busy as usual. The fashion memes are always enjoyable, but this month’s other quirks have been the talk of the social media fashion streets.
From New York to Paris, these are the top quirks that caught the attention of social media users.
Memorable model walks
The walks of various models have received much attention from the crowd-exhilarating walks to those that shocked viewers.
The walk that is making the rounds at the moment is one that has been deemed meme-worthy from the Maison Margiela show, where model Leon Dame gave a statement walk that British Vogue editor-in-chief Edward Enninful calls “a moment!”
Sharing what it took to execute this walk on the day, Leon tells Vogue: “I already had something on my mind, but I worked it out during the rehearsals with Pat Boguslawski [a movement director] the night before the show.”
The walk attracted much attention on social media and was used in witty fashion memes such as the one below.

A flash back to Zendaya and Tommy Hilfiger’s New York Fashion Week show, model Alton Mason lit up the runway in a snakeskin suit – identical to the one Zendaya wore herself. Alton stole the show (and everyone’s hearts) as he danced down the runway playing an invisible guitar but the star moment was when he bust out the gwara gwara mid walk.
Helen Mirren running down the runway barefoot is one moment that cannot be overlooked. With the biggest smile in a black and white Giambattista Valli dress the English actress showed up in an energised run for the L'Oréal Paris show and brought so much joy to the audience.
The Fashion Week Frog
One of the highlights of fashion month was the launch of the Fashion Week Frog. This hilarious account, and somewhat relatable to those who work in fashion, has the fashion community in comforting comedy.
This account's first post is dated 2 September at the inception of fashion month and since then has accumulated more than 10 000 followers. It seems to be an open secret of who the founder of this account is but nothing is in black and white as yet. Since the only person this account follows is accessories director at Marie Clare Julia Gall, it’s a safe bet that she’s the brain behind the green felt genius.
Lucky for us, it seems the FWF is here to stay. The ‘anonymous’ founder of the page tells Paper Magazine on whether this page will exist after fashion month she says, “Oh for sure. Fashion industry craziness is an evergreen concept, a ‘carryover style’ if you will.”
Cardi B in head-to-toe florals
Since her Fashion Nova days, before she partnered with the brand on a line, fashion has always been part of Cardi B’s brand. With talented and long-time stylist Kollin Carter by her side, Cardi be has been dancing with fashion and making her love for the craft known.

Amid Paris Fashion Week hip hop hitmaker stepped out in a head-to-toe Richard Quinn floral ensemble – moment that is reminiscent of Ricky Rick’s 2018 SAMA awards look and A$AP Rocky’s in a silk headscarf.
Hip Hop collection sound tracks
As far as hip hop goes, other rappers had their own moments this fashion month. Rapper Rico Nasty performed on the runway shows for VFiles and Chromat as she released a catchy track called Fashion Week.

“Fendi prints on” did not end with the Nicki Minaj’s Chun Li track. The rapper is now featured in a song with Murda Beatz by PnB Rock called Fendi as a soundtrack to the brand’s latest collection. Nicki and Fendi are set to launch Fendi Prints On collection on 14 October 2019, where song’s video serves as a sneak peak.
