These snazzy sneakers are made from banana fibers. Diana Feliu and Ivan Rojas are the brains behind the eco-friendly shoes. Indianes Footwear sources the fibre from Colombia.
"It's agricultural waste, it comes from the process that takes place every year when the plant must be cut down to grow a new one. At Indianes we saw the opportunity to use this waste and turn it into technical and useful material to make shoes," says Ivan, the CEO of Indianes.
And once the customer is done wearing them, the trainers still won't harm the planet.
"We've studied that it will take, when buried, about two years to decompose without any chemical or anything harmful for the earth [sic]," says Ivan.
