We’ve seen them on the runways and red carpets, but are men ready to embrace the handbags?

Handbags for men? It’s a trend. Belt bags, messenger bags and stylish backpacks have made way for cross body bags to enter the fashion scene.

We’ve seen them on the runways, fashion editorials, Riky Rick’s red carpet looks and most recently on an Okapi Africa “unisex” collection with MaXhosa By Laduma.

But, will we be seeing more men on the street with handbags? Has the day where we will be twinning bags with our male counterparts arrived? We spoke to some young men to hear their thoughts on this rising trend.

I like that they have gone with leather cross body bags instead of those that look like fanny packs. So the trend is still there but they’re phasing out the fanny pack thing and they are doing something with more quality. If I’m going out in a social setting bring it on, I’d wear one.

I keep my phone and my wallet in my pockets. I don’t have a tablet so there’s no need for that bag. Another thing is, if you’re wearing such bags it might attract criminals as if there’s something valuable in the bag and then you become a target. I can be stylish with the clothes I’m wearing now, I don’t need a bag to be stylish

My first bag was a Relay passenger bag. It was comfortable and great to travel around with. I like the small ones but I think they should at least make them bigger for people to take to the workplace. It's cute for going to clubs if you know your style, if you love fashion. At the moment, I just get ready and put my things in my pockets but I would like one.
