Saint Laurent's new condoms are the kind of luxury latex we wouldn't mind keeping a stash of in our handbags

In this week's edition of "things we didn't know we needed until now", French luxury label Saint Laurent recently revealed their new selection of condoms that are selling at €2 (roughly R35) a pop, exclusively at Rive Droite - the label's Parisian concept store.

These high-fashion condoms have been introduced to the world through a provocative campaign shot by veteran fashion photographer Juergen Teller, titled 'The Love Affair', which features Polish model Anja Rubik alongside a naked and inked multimedia artist David Alexander Finn.

The exclusive condoms come in a range of on-trend fashion print wrappers - zebra, checkered, leopard, hearts, and preservative ears, providing options for when you either want to unleash your inner animal or feel the love tonight.

And considering you can only purchase this luxury latex in Paris (the city of 'love' and fashion), it only makes sense that you do everything in style while you're at it, surely.

Is this part of the 'Rich $ex' fuccboi Future autotuned about on his 2015 track? Perhaps.

Anyway, it would appear that these condoms are not the only fashionable statement about safe sex the Saint Laurent brand is making under Anthony Vaccarello's creative directorship.

They also currently have a "Debbie Says Use Condoms" women's T-shirt available for €295 (roughly R4800) on their site.

This wouldn't be the first time the world of fashion gave practicing safe sex an even cooler edge than it already has.

In 2017, Alexander Wang collaborated with Trojan condoms for New York Pride, where attendees of the parade wore T-shirts with the cheeky 'Protect Your Wang' advice emblazoned across them.

According to Dazed, the New York designer expressed how "it’s incredibly important to do anything [they] can to bring awareness to the [LGBTQ] community and spread a message of love.”

Again in 2017, we all mused with excitement at the possibility of being able to get our hands on Off-White condoms. This seed was planted in our minds by the graphic designer behind the @mikadololo Instagram account, whose fashion bootlegs are known to rouse hype over the fact they may one day be a reality.

So when this account dropped an image of an Off-White branded condom with the word “SAFE” in Virgil Abloh's signature quotation marks, the reaction was no different.

One would imagine that if these did eventually become available, the Off-White creative director would've probably added "For Sex" on the wrapper in his true minimalist and 'stating the obvious' fashion.

Although these weren't created by a fashion label, you may also remember the Crown Jewels of London's limited edition 'Heritage Condoms' in celebration of the royal wedding of the Duchess and Duke of Sussex last year, which sold for £10 (roughly R180).

With the witty tagline "Your Prince will come", these 'doms were quite a humorous touch to all the royal wedding mania of 2018.

As more liberal women who engage in sexual relations with men have shed the shame of buying condoms and are now keeping their own supply of condoms, the thought of pulling out a condom with a wrapper in the same print as your dress is quite an appealing one to play around with.

Safe sex, but make it fashion? Oui, s'il vous plaît!
