With fashion making moves towards becoming more minimalistic and normcore every season amid the humdrum of sustainable fashion conversations, it's become easier for those who follow trends to slip through the data cracks of a speedy Instagram scroll.

The fashion streets not only look like everyone stepped out of the same Fashion Nova catalogue, but even would-be-statement accessories and shoes, are now also just another addition to the Hands Across America phenomenon of a uniform aesthetic.

So what's the next best way to give what we, fashion folk, call a "memorable look"? You wear an accessory that may render you a 'risk-taker' in a sartorial environment which is  playing it safe with neutral Kardashian hues.

A big thank you must therefore go to the interior design community for confirming that it's okay to dabble in maximalism in 2018 and beyond. What that means is that we can now also apply this decree to our wardrobes - even if with just a wide-brimmed hat atop a summer-LBD-and-espadrilles getup.

Not forgetting the fact that it's also worth taking our hats off to a few of this decade's style icons, including the likes of Rihanna, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, and Beyoncé, who have all, in some way, contributed to the statement headwear movement.

The custom Atelier Versace bucket hat Riri wore to her Fenty Beauty anniversary in 2018 made headlines across the globe, and we subsequently saw a resurgence in bucket hat (and snake print clothes) looks on social media.

When Bey's daddy said shoot, the world bit the bullet, got into formation and went in search of larger-than-life hats to make street style statements.

And the CFDA Style Icon Award recipient has been serving up maxi hats since...
