The actress attended the designer's runway show at Paris Fashion Week and spoke of how much of a fan she is. She further said the work Stella McCartney does with her eponymous label helps "protect and preserve the world".
"I do know her personally and I'm also just a major fan of her work as an artist but also just as a human and the things that she comes up with and what she's doing to kind of like radically change this world and affect things. There's no one like Stella," says Shailene.
"One colour of her is the crazy designer artist and then the other colour of her is the person that wants help protect and preserve this world. And so how do you marry those together and that's who she is," the actress tells ET Canada.
Stella had people dressed as animals, including cows, horses, a rabbit, a fox and a crocodile walking down the runway alongside her collection to make a bold statement about cruelty-free fashion.
Stella McCartney says, "The collection is very much about looking almost into the history of sort of glamour, film, theatre - very much trying to make it dream-like and something you can really escape into. Usually at Stella I really try to make everything very wearable and I try to avoid things that are just extraordinary and unrealistic, and I really tried to do the opposite.
"Well, I love animals and I think that the entire sort of foundation of the Stella McCartney House is based on not wanting to be part of animal cruelty and really looking at the impact of animal agriculture and how that is really harming the environment, so, you know, it comes from an ethical love of them," she says.
"And also what I've done for many many years now is try source materials and work with suppliers and make non-leathers and fake furs, and here in the show you saw a faux sheep skin, and to really look at animals skins, if you'd like, and show that there is an alternative."
