According to Instagram, users have started staying for longer periods on the app ever since they introduced the story feature.
The users older than 25 years stay on the app for more than 25 minutes a day. Those under the age of 25 spend 32 minutes a day, on average.
Whether you are mindlessly scrolling or actively looking for items to shop, we spend a lot of time on Instagram and it's no wonder we are seeing legitimate fashion trends buzzing on the app.
And let’s be honest, some of these trends exist simply because they look great in pictures.
Here are the notable fashion trends we saw on Instagram this year:
Clear high heels & bags
Clear shoes are definitely not a new trend, however, they made a powerful come back in 2018. The new ones are much more sophisticated and refined, some have clear jewels, living you with a subtle elegant look.
Plastic was definitely in this year, because clear bags were the hottest thing on as well. Your days of a dirty bottomless pit in your purse will be no more with this transparent bag.
Sheer blouse
Sheer fabrics had a fashion moment, and we enjoyed it. We saw more fashion influencers in see-through tops.
You're not alone if you were a bit intimidated by this trend, most people seemed to have been wearing them more on Instagram pictures than in real life. Not Kendall Jenner of course.

Fluffy slides
Rihanna collaborated with Puma and produced fluffy slides and we still can't escape this trend.
The slide may have been this year’s summer must-have shoe, one of the biggest shoe trends on Instagram. They come in different colours but the black and maroon seemed to be the favourite colour of many.
Biker shorts
Thanks to Virgil Abloh, and Naomi Campbell who modeled them, biker shorts were real pants this year.
Since then, the skin tight shorts have become a celebrity favourite. Kim Kardashian, Khloe Kardashian and Bella Hadid also rocked these – no wonder Instagram buzzed with snaps of biker shorts.

Fanny packs
This trend has to be the answer to many prayers because fanny packs are extremely functional and efficient.
They allow you to go about your business without having your hands tied up.You can hang them around the waist, across your chest or around the shoulder – they simply work.
Whether it’s a passing fashion fad or not, we enjoyed our fanny packs.
The neon trend
The one trend all neutral girls feared the most blew up this year. Who can forget the day Kim Kardashian wore a neon dress to 2 Chainz’ wedding and left the internet in a frenzy? Or when Blake Lively rocked a Versace neon suite. This trend is definitely for the brave.
