Not one, not two but plenty of South African influencers have jumped on the snakeskin trend bandwagon, bringing it to new heights with every outfit.

Many online and some brick and mortar stores have at least two snakeskin prints for sale at the moment and the influencers are swiping right and their cards.

Snakeskin prints on boots, skirts, shirts, dress, handbags – no item is off the table for this trend. So what's made this particular look such a sensation among South Africa’s top celebs and influencers?

Remember when the god of all trend setters appeared at her Fenty Beauty event dressed in head black and white snakeskin print? Well, she could be the reason for inspiring the masses – according to stylist and media personality Tshepi Vundla.

“Snake print is literally everywhere and the print comes in any fashionable item you can think of because it’s so versatile. I honestly believe Rihanna made it a thing again with her head to toe white and grey snake print look," Tshepi.

We all know; what Rihanna does, we all want to do.

In the past few seasons the snake print trend has snowballed, to the point where all the cool influencers are rocking it – sometimes in their own unique way and, interestingly, other times when we've had to blink twice to make sure we weren't experiencing deja vu.

The most popular outfit? It's the snakeskin printed two piece, the midi-length shirt with matching wide leg pants. All your faves are wearing it, and all your go-to stores are selling it.

Zara, Zando and Superbalist have their own interpretations of the two piece that has our influencers twinning.

So what’s up with the specific head-to-toe combination of this print?

“I personally find this frustrating but then then again we don’t have many shopping store options to shop from and most shops literally all have the same thing, I think it’s more of “we don’t have a choice” thing – but I think with this trend, as women, we don’t mind, says Tshepi.

As someone who has explored this outfit combination herself, she says she loved the two piece and was interested in how she could explore ways of wearing each item separately to “break the print”.

I know my partner hates how we all looking the same and he isn’t the biggest fan of animal print.

Whether we take notes from the influencers or interpret the trend print differently, there are options to try.

A tip from Tshepi: She recommends bold colours and denim when mixing the print up.

“I love animal skin print with strong colours like black and red (shoes, handbags, accessories). It makes it more daring and sexy,” she says. And, “Denim works with everything”.
