It was a night she had been looking forward to for months.

The young and beautiful brunette would celebrate her 21st birthday – a milestone birthday, as she calls it – with her cousin.

But as the pair drove through the bustling streets of London, an unknown man approached their vehicle when they stopped at a red traffic light.

Resham Khan (21) and Jameel Muhktar (37) were doused with acid by their attacker and suffered horrific injuries as a result, The Mirror reported earlier this year.

“The pain was excruciating, I was struggling to close the window,” Resham wrote in a heartbreaking blog post shortly after the incident in June.

“My cousin struggled to get us away.”

Now, four months after their ordeal, the aspiring model has shared a photo of her face after making a remarkable recovery.

“Time to stop hiding,” she captioned the image she shared with her 20 000 Twitter followers.

Resham was hailed as courageous by her followers, with whom she’s been sharing regular updates of her recovery.

"Keep breaking barriers and setting the bar, you're doing amazing Resh! With your level of courage and heart, you're destined for greatness," one user commented.

While another had nothing but well-wishes for her: "Gorgeous and strong. More power to you. Never abandon your dreams, you will get what you want. God is watching over you.”

The attack, which took place in Beckton, east of London, left Resham with serious injuries – some of which are permanent.

According to Evening Standard, to treat her burns, the business management student had to undergo several skin grafts and surgeries.

John Tomlin (24) had been arrested in connection with the attack, Evening Standard reports.

He is set to stand trial at the Southwark Crown Court on 27 November.
