AT A GLANCE: Gauteng has the highest number of reported rape cases in SA

Crime Stats SA has recently released a report of the crime statistics for 2017/2018, which were presented by Police Minister Bheki Cele on 11 September 2018. The information covers the period between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018.

According to the stats, the number of women who have been reported murdered in the past year has increased from 2 639 to 2 930. The report reiterates the increase in cases of gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa over the past years, and the reality of the cases of violence against women and children is worrying.
