I think I get it now – being inside a gym can bring a lot of motivation. I’ve always advocated home exercise, but after visiting the newish Virgin Active Loftus in Tshwane, I understand the appeal.
As you enter the building, you’re welcomed by really cool steel bicycle structures that club manager Tessa Groenewald tells me are lock-up bars for bikes. The reception area has a Kauai restaurant that serves the best of the brand’s flagship good-for-your-gut food to either kick in the pre-workout boost or to finish off a session with something healthy.
I was hella impressed with the kids’ workout area – the gym caters for new parents with its facility called Club-V, where they can leave their new bundles of joy with fully qualified caretakers. There’s also a nursery with a rocking chair, where the parent or the caretaker can ease the little one off to sleep.
Club-V kids (separated into two age groups – zero to seven and eight to 13) have their own age-appropriate facilities to keep them moving.
There’s also a first-of-its-kind family studio, where families can sweat it out together – a family that sweats together stays together, right?
This new gym boasts some of the latest in the fitness world, including a newly launched rumble group boxing class (noncontact), a heat studio where 30 minutes are spent blasting calories, suspension yoga and a Pilates studio that comes with reformer beds and futuristic-looking spinning bikes.
As a home gym advocate, I found this somewhat overwhelming. I mean, there were machines everywhere!
But I will admit that I wouldn’t mind dying in this gym – after a really kick-ass session, obviously.
