Heavenly Spa at the Westin

To promote Women’s Month The Heavenly Spa at the Westin in the Foreshore are hosting a Secret Lunch Hour.

The idea is to sneak away from your busy life and experience 90 minutes of bliss – a 45 minute pampering session (facial or massage or mani-pedi combo) followed by a deliciously decadent lunch with your significant other or bestie.

Lili’s experience:

Well, I got invited to do it, and it was AMAZE. I opted for the bespoke Dermalogica facial, which was deep cleansing, hydrating and extremely relaxing. The therapist used Dermalogica’s most soothing range and my skin looked dewy and fresh for days.

But if you wonder why it’s called The Heavenly Spa you only have to see the view. The awe-inspiring, panoramic view of Cape Town is truly something to behold.

Sipping crisp white wine while dining the carefully prepared two-course menu, while looking out over the city and the mountain is an unforgettably luxurious experience.

Harry’s experience:

I opted for the back and neck massage and was deeply pleased with my decision. 45 minutes of professional back-rubbery is always welcome, and I left feeling as though my troubles had been quite literally lifted off my shoulders.

I followed this up with a few laps in the pool before a good 15 minutes in the ludicrously picturesque sauna. Taking up one corner of the building, one can smugly peer down at those in the traffic below as you sweat it out.

Lili and I had the warm and fragrant calamari salad to start with and I chose the tenderloin steak with mushroom ragout and Lili had the ridiculously decadent hazelnut gnocchi with confit duck.

Cayenne Spa: Winter package special – Africology facial and back, shoulder and neck massage mix and max package experience.

Tammy’s experience:

I’m rather wary when it comes to going to places where I have to expose myself. Spas? They’ve always been an area that’s been off bounds to me. For decades it’s been imprinted on society to treat people – especially women – who aren’t skinny like they’re subpar to other people.

Big girls aren’t allowed to have fun. They shouldn’t dare show up in a bikini and they definitely shouldn’t treat themselves to a pamper session where other people have to handle their fleshy bits.

There are, of course, some horror stories from people who’ve had bad spa experiences simply because they didn’t represent a certain lifestyle aesthetic, but thankfully, the Cayenne Spa, based at The Pepperclub Hotel in Cape Town, is certainly not one of them.

I was recently invited to try out their new Winter Special, where the Spa has offered up a range of four different types of treatments, of which you can mix and match the options you’d like to choose from and bask in the absolute pleasure of being pampered by the warm, friendly and professional spa therapists.

The treatments I could choose from were as follows:

•        Back, neck & shoulder massage
•        Scalp, neck & shoulder massage
•        Express Manicure
•        Express Pedicure
•        Vitamin boost Mini Cleanse Africology facial
•        Full body inkomfi exfoliation

Because I was not feeling entirely comfortable stripping down to the bare necessities, I opted for the Africology facial (divine) and the back, neck & shoulder massage.  Let me just tell us this: bliss, absolute bliss.

I actually had little time to feel self-conscious, because upon my arrival, I was told to unclothe, don a fluffy white robe and sit in the waiting room with tea, muffins and all manner of deliciously healthy fruits and treats available for me to enjoy.

Following that, I was led into a room that was both atmospheric and soothing and immediately set at ease. The Pepperclub spa makes use of Africology products – products that are eco-friendly and all natural. The masseuse made use of products that contained jojoba oil – known for its revitalising properties and treated me to a thoroughly invigorating  massage.

I swear by the end, I felt both relaxed and sore in muscles I didn’t know I had (a good sore, by the way).  The facial that went with it?  Left my skin feeling silky soft and baby-smooth. Everything about the experience left me wanting more and I can’t wait to go back again.

All in all, a highly recommended experience – one that I suggest you try as soon as possible.
