This artist is sticking sanitary pads up in public and it’s great

No matter how used you are to using sanitary products, there is always a part of you that cringes when you see a tampon on the floor or a pad sticking out of the bin.

So when German artist, Elonë, started sticking pads on street poles with hard truths written on them, people got really uncomfortable – and it’s fantastic!

We all know about the stats regarding rape and human trafficking. We’ve heard the slogans saying ‘women have the right to say no’ and ‘short skirts are not an invitation for rape’. And while these stats and slogans are still relevant and important, when one hears the same thing over and over again it is easy to dismiss it.

Enter Elonë and her pads.

Sometimes you need a good shock to let the message sink in and that’s exactly what Elonë is doing. It’s pretty hard to ignore a pad that says: “If only men were as disgusted by rape as they are about periods.”

Her project has created such a stir that much needed debates and conversations are happening worldwide.

Like with anyone who pushes feminists ideas or gender equality Elonë has received lots of hate on the internet, but she handles is like a champion.

When asked about it on Tumblr she simply replied by saying she doesn’t care what people are saying as long as they become aware of the problem.

She has also inspired others to follow in her foot steps and do the same in their towns.

You go Elonë!
