My 2018 has been a good year. I asked for a good year and I think I got exactly that. I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve had surprises here and there, but I generally stuck to my plan. There was a lot of growth in different areas of my life. I will remember 2018 for all the good things that happened to me. So bring on 2019!

There are different tools and ways to deal with change. Keep an eye on things. If you have an idea, write it down, commit to it and then do it. Also, write down your annual plan.  Be realistic about the timeline and then just get going. If things don’t work out, at least you have a plan on paper – you have a sense of what you wanted to do, and you can just pick up from where you left off.

If there is something that you didn’t get to do this year, there’s always next year. But always leave room for any possibility, and for God to come and do His magic.

I really didn’t really know how to take a break, especially in the last ten years. I worked a lot because when I did relax, it felt like I was not using my time well. As women, we’re very reluctant to taking time off. We actually feel guilty. We push ourselves to work, we’re always on the go, doing something or the other.

I reached a point where I felt very exhausted. So now I actually prioritise relaxation time. I’m very selfish about it. I make time to do the things that I like. I don’t just keep going endlessly because I know what going non-stop does to me. I get very anxious, tired and irritable. I don’t like being like that. I have to prioritise relaxation so that I’m able to think clearer, allowing me to sleep better.

I’ve learned to say no to things so I can have relaxation time.  I go on hikes or take short trips out of Joburg. I do yoga, as well as activities that keep me in touch with nature, like gardening, which is something that I’d neglected. It keeps me very calm and relaxed. And, it’s not even expensive.

We squander so much money on night outs, doing things that don’t improve who we are as people. If we take an afternoon to just walk, or go on a hike and marvel at nature, you benefit so much from that. And, it saves you a lot of money too.

Being in nature and eating better has done me so much good. I don’t eat as much meat as I used to. My diet is plant-based now, which has actually regulated my weight. I’m much more mindful about what I put in my body because it does have an effect on your well-being.

The Miss London Salon and MsLondon Cosmetics brand has really grown this year. We’ve got three salons now and we’re working on expanding even more. There’s a lot of people who’ve expressed their interest in being part of the brand, so that’s what we’ll be working on in terms of growing the salons. In terms of the make-up line, our relationship with Woolworths is also growing from strength to strength. We want to expand our distribution network in South Africa and beyond our borders.
