The Standard Bank Joy of Jazz is throwing a special event to celebrate Women’s Month.

The picnic on August 11, called Women’s HeART, will have Constitution Hill as a backdrop to women in music, media and the arts dancing and celebrating together.

“It’s Women’s Month and what better way to celebrate than to gather powerful, talented and beautiful women to celebrate each other, cheer each other on, share and cry with one another through music and conversation.

“We are looking forward to hosting all the beautiful people coming out to Constitution Hill for a day of joy and some jazz sounds,” says Mantwa Chinoamadi, the festival producer and general manager of organisers
T-MusicMan. “Through it all, the arts have always played a significant role in easing and soothing most circumstances. Music, dance, fashion, poetry and hospitality [have always] kept the country’s hopes alive.

“This event is meant to celebrate with mature and younger women in the arts sector in general, and embrace the fact that these women entertain, educate and still look good while doing it.

“We share this one special day and celebrate Women’s HeART.”

Chinoamadi, who has been with T-MusicMan for more than 25 years, says what she finds difficult but also rewarding as a woman working in a male-dominated industry is the vindictive and unsupportive behaviour of most men.

“If I did not have a support system and a mentor who encouraged me at all times, it could have impacted on my ability to do the job and feel comfortable in this space.”

What changes would she like to see? “I would like to see myself [as a woman] being addressed as ‘Mantwa Chinoamadi, the producer’ instead of ‘the female producer’.”

Chinoamadi says in order to stand out, women need to take advantage of their feminine qualities, such as empathy and nurturing.

The Women’s HeART event is from 11am till late, and guests are encouraged to wear black with a touch of gold.
