Meet the first transgender woman to compete at Miss Universe

According to USA Today, she hopes to achieve this feat whether she makes the top spot or not. 

The 26-year-old beat 20 other contestants in the Miss Universe Spain competition to qualify for the global round of the pagaent. Transgender contestants have been allowed to participate since 2012. 

She’s not only making history as the first Miss Universe Spain, but also for being the first openly trans contestant in the worldwide competition.

Angela plans to use her platform "to be a spokesperson for a message of inclusion, respect, and diversity, not just for the LGBTQ+ community, but for the entire world."

Angela first identified as female at the age of three and she says that when she was younger she would tell her new school teachers to call her Angela.
