I’d like to share my story to show other women that it is possible to overcome whatever bad has happened in your life and move on.
I was raped − twice. First when I was 16, by a taxi driver. And again when I was 18, by my boyfriend. The first time, I told my father, who took me to the hospital. But the second time, I told nobody. Only my husband knows.
Yes, I'm married to a beautiful man and have four kids of my own as well as a step-daughter. It was very difficult to forget the rapes before I met my loving husband, who has supported me from the day we met up until now.
When you are angry or bitter at a person who did you wrong, you actually give them power to control your life. I chose happiness instead of grief. I prayed hard about it as well, and God gave me the strength and courage to live with my pain and then feel happiness. Time is more important than anything, so why waste your life beating yourself up and feeling sorry for yourself?
In addition to being happily married, I run a small business and have other ventures in the pipeline, like launching my own perfume line. I already have a final scent sample, which was made in Germany.
The fact that I was raped and possess no academic qualification doesn't limit me or stop me from becoming what I want to be in life. So to all the sisters out there who have gone through the same – the pain doesn't completely heal, but you do learn to live with it. Don’t give the rapist the power to control your life.
Choose to be happy. Our time on Earth is a gift. God lent us this life and we really don’t know when He will take it back.
