Award-winning Icelandic author and rape survivor Thordis Elva has collaborated with her rapist to write a book.
Cosmopolitan reports that two decades ago, a sixteen year-old Elva was raped by then boyfriend, Australian exchange student Tom Stranger.

The book, South of Forgiveness, has led to them being asked to do a joint TED Talk.

According to the book’s website, South of Forgiveness “is an unprecedented collaboration between a survivor and a perpetrator, each equally committed to exploring the darkest moment of their lives.”

Elva, Iceland’s Woman of the Year 2015, is an author, playwright, journalist, public speaker and activist on issues such as equal rights and sexual violence.

Stranger works with young people with mental health challenges, substance addiction and neurological impairment.

The project which seeks to understand, explore, acknowledge and heal will be published in March this year.
