As male partners and fathers do more childrearing and household chores, another discrepancy is emerging in the household gender gap.

The mental load that women bear – which has recently hit headlines in international publications such as the US’s Time Magazine and Britain’s Guardian newspaper – can be explained in two words: toilet paper. Who notices when it runs out?

Women also largely take on the role of organiser in chief: transport from school, vaccination dates, and seeing to it that there is enough bread in the house to fill the skaftins.
