Born in Kwa-Mashu outside Durban, KwaZulu Natal, Zakhele Madida to his family and friends. Zakes is a trained musician with a Social Entrepreneurship post-graduate qualification from GIBS. Zakes’ future entails building a breast cancer hospital in honor of his late mother Nomthandazo Madida, who fought a fatal battle with cancer.
“That is something I am passionate about and I would like to make a difference, even if it just a small contribution in the prevention of loss lives through breast cancer. I would like to encourage people to get their mammograms done and take preventative measures early. The long-term goal is to build a cancer facility in honor of my mother, but to also help disadvantaged women." says Zakes.
Zakes is one of the rare-finds in the industry, an all-rounder; performer, composer, dancer, former artist manager, former A&R at Sony Music and an academically qualified musician. His contribution to the music industry is something he also wants to deposit to young artists in the form of master classes, which will be launching in the next month.
