Most women aren't bitchy

Last week, I wrote about the girl I was jealous of in high school. It felt good to get it off my chest, but as always, I got quite a few responses from men who told me “how typical” and that “all women hated each other” and were basically all biatches from Satan himself.

Sigh.

I have two sisters, 19 female cousins, three nieces and a million aunts. I also work with a women-only team and sit in an office where I’m surrounded by about 20 women. And you know what? We get along fabulously. Even when we all get our period at the same time – which we do – there are never fights, hate, jealousy or bitchiness.

We joke, we support, we tease, we play and we work together as a team. Every day. And I’m proud to be a part of it. But don’t take my word for it… Carmen, over to you:

I love the team I work in. We’re a bunch of diverse, fun, and hard-working women who are always up for a laugh. It’s what makes coming to work every day so much fun. Don’t get me wrong – we get frustrated sometimes, but the great thing about this team is that we’re honest. If we’re not happy about something, we say so. There’s no backstabbing or deceit. When one of us tells the other that her hair looks fantastic, or her perfume is divine, we mean it. There are also often days when we just laugh and laugh about the silliest things on the planet, like the day we made fart jokes... Remember that, Tammy?

Yes, how could I forget? In all honesty, I don’t think I would be able to survive without the rest of the girls. They’re my second family – and because we spend so much time together there’s no way that we can hide things from one another. We’re accustomed to one another’s moods and we always know when someone’s going through a tough time. And for me, there’s no one, besides my family, who has supported me through the years like the wonderful women I’m surrounded by. The patience and understanding and unconditional support has helped me to get through some of the worst days.  And I think that Jana would certainly agree, right?

You're totally right. I must admit that it took me a while to get used to the over-sharing and intensely friendly vibes when I first started working here. But I soon realised that these women wouldn’t only be my colleagues, but my friends as well. And when I’m grumpy, they leave me alone. When I’m feeling silly, they indulge me. And when I really need to talk, they will always listen. Now, if they would only stop eating crunchy food ALL THE TIME, I would be content.
