The most recent Forbes’ latest rich lists already have people talking, and what appears to be piquing the interest of the masses are the newcomers on the list. Forbes says they expanded this list to a third more than last year’s list.

According to Forbes, “women are creating more new businesses and amassing fortunes than ever before”. Two prime examples of this are Serena Williams and Rihanna.

Serena Williams is the latest entrant into Forbes’ List of America’s Richest Self-Made Women list, and as a result, is featured on the cover. Serena’s fortune has come through a number of streams - one of which is her tennis prize money. Forbes notes that it amounts to $89 million over her 24-year professional career.

While Serena is still playing tennis, she has also recently revealed her business ventures. Serena branched into fashion with S by Serena in 2018, and what she only recently started speaking openly about is her company, Serena Ventures.

In an interview with Business of Fashion, Serena says she started her investments back in 2014, saying she focuses her investments on companies founded by women and people of colour, which is where 60% of the investments have gone, according to Forbes.

Another star on the Forbes’ List of America’s Richest Self-Made Women is one who has been making rounds of headlines recently - Rihanna. In the recent weeks, following the announcement of her collaboration with luxury conglomerate LVMH (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton) to launch her own luxury maison FENTY, Rihanna has remained in the news.

What has brought her name to the spotlight again is her position on this Forbes list as the richest woman musician.

According to Forbes, Rihanna has now amassed $600 million, some of which is from her Fenty businesses that have helped rake in the millions. So surely Rihanna’s music fans can appreciate the absence of a new album now that they know it's due to newfound wealth.

Other notable names on this “self-made” rich list include Oprah, Reese Witherspoon, Kylie Jenner, and Ellen DeGeneres among many others.
