Thembi Hama, NLP Life Coach explains how a positive mindset can help. “Don’t take your eye off your passion and what you want to do. Keep a vision board to remind you. It’ll be a motivator, so keep your eye on your goal and don’t be too hard on yourself because how you react to your failure can make or break your success in the future.”
Here are some tips to maintain the search and not be disheartened from Hama:
Cultivate self-discipline
Remain positive and take it one step at a time. Wake up each day and make your job search your job. Ask yourself is it me or is it the environment. Do I put in too much effort or do I need to put in the effort? Do I need to change my CV or cast my net a bit wider? But be honest with yourself. You can have a professional CV done, or seek the help of an employment agency.
Network
Whether you get a mentor in the field to assist you or cast your net wider by simply talking to people. The more people who share the same passion you have around you the better. So, get out of your comfort zone. Create connections. They can lead you to your next job.
Ensure you have a strong support system
Having people in your corner who are encouraging you and motivating you is very important. Especially when you are around like-minded people you’re bound to do better. So when the going gets tough they can lift you up.
Use the Internet
Update your social media profiles like LinkedIn and make sure it represents what you want your future employers to see. Make sure your online footprint is clean and professional because recruiters can check and see what you’re posting. And, the types of groups you’re part of can tell them what kind of person you are.
