Soweto-born fashion designer Sello Medupe of Scalo isn’t only getting loved at home but is getting international recognition for his hard work and creativity. The Joburg-based designer recently landed on home soil after showcasing 20 of his best garments at Turin Fashion Week in Italy.

To celebrate the big win, Scalo together with Martini Prosecco hosted a celebration brunch at Luxx RestoBar in Carlswald, Midrand. “This was my first international show and the organisers were so impressed they have asked me to showcase again in July 2019.”

The theme for Scalo’s designs was Africa with a twist. Sello was required to design garments inspired by two African tribes. “I chose Ndebele and Xhosa because of the bold, distinct designs but overall the work represented Africa as a continent and embraced the beauty of the African feminine figure.”

Proud to be representing Africa on an international platform Scalo will also be showcasing at Milan Fashion Week in Italy in 2019.
