A woman claimed she was late for work because of a punctured tyre, but there’s a big problem with the photo she sent as proof.

One woman’s concocted lie to her boss about why she was late for work spiralled out of control when she used a fake photo as proof.

According to the Mirror, the woman’s colleague, Sydney Whitson, took to Twitter to share the epic fail.

The unidentified woman called in to work to say she was having issues with her car, claiming there was a nail stuck in her tyre which caused a puncture.

To verify her claims, she then sent her boss a photo of a nail in a tyre – but all wasn’t as it seemed.

In her post on Twitter, Whitson shared her disbelief along with the image.

“My colleague called in (yet again) and said she had a nail on her tire [sic] that cause her to have a flat,” she wrote.

“I need everyone to stop what they’re doing and zoom in to the nail in the picture she sent my boss.”

Almost instantaneously, the tweet went viral, garnering more than 45 000 retweets and counting, reports The Sun, after users spotted that the nail was in actual fact an emoji.

Thousands of users shared their hilarious reactions to the doctored photo.

“Yep. That’s what happens when you drive through construction zones in Toon Town,” one user responded.

“Ha ha ha! I think she nailed it,” another piped in.

“Why did she take time to badly edit an emoji nail in her tire instead of getting a realistic-looking picture off Google if he asked for a picture? A prime example of work smarter, not harder,” another wrote.
