Academic and commentator Professor Jonathan Jansen once called for a “political settlement” between the leadership of the country, university leaders and student bodies so that we “don’t burn the house we live in”.

That was about four years ago as the fires that were lit during the Fallist rebellions continued to rage on South African campuses. Although no longer at the scale of the #FeesMustFall period – when nearly a year of learning was lost – universities were still facing huge disruptions in 2018, and continue to do so today.
