With Twitterati still dissecting the Matthew Booth cheating scandal after his wife and former beauty queen, Sonia Booth, exposed him on Instagram, we look at celebrity relationships that, over the years, ended up unravelling on social media platforms.

Sonia and Matthew Booth

Matthew and Sonia's Booth marriage gave many of their followers hope as the interracial couple inspired fans with a clean life and admirable family values until it all erupted this week with Cheesecakegate when Sonia took to Instagram to expose her husband's cheating ways with fitness enthusiast Bongani Mthombeni-Möller.

Sonia expanded how, after months of tracking Matthew since Valentine's Day and even meeting Möller's husband, she was exposing her husband for betraying their family. She divulged in one of her posts:

They spent the night in Polokwane, and the following day, he dropped her off at her house. I bet it was bliss because Matthew Booth arrived home with an exquisitely wrapped gift box, one of the perfumes being Guilty — a wicked sense of humour.

What inflamed Twitter and Instagram more was Sonia's first post where she explained that her domesticated husband of many years baked a delectable cheesecake when they were turning in to sleep one night, only for the family to be left dismayed and disappointed when they discovered he took the whole cheesecake to Möller and did not leave them a slice, let alone a few crumbs.

Sonia noted that Matthew even took her Tupperware to deliver the dessert and everyone knows you do not mess with a woman's Tupperware.

The implicated Bongani is seemingly unfazed by the storm as she later posted a video of herself killing it in a spinning class and a self-motivating mantra that alluded to the fact that she was trying her best to weather this storm. Matthew, on the other hand, has denied the cheating allegations, while SuperSport also released a statement that they would not be acting against him for a personal matter.

We are the ones who dare to live, we are the ones who dare to carry on under difficult circumstances ... so keep it moving ... on to the next.

The ''keep it moving" post received massive backlash, and her Instagram account was later deactivated.

Matthew noted that he would get his legal team to further handle this situation, saying:

It is with utmost sadness and disappointment that my wife, Sonia Booth, resorted to airing unfounded allegations on all platforms with the intention to tarnish my name without discussing them with me, and without considering the damage that these allegations will cause, especially to our minor children who are in the middle of their final exams and to the Mthombeni-Möller family.

Three years ago, former The River actor Hlomla Dandala invited South Africans into his private life on social media by exposing his wife, Brenda, having an affair with someone with whom she even cheated on their marital bed.

The angry actor divulged that his ex-wife left him to care for their sick child while she met up with another man and that the two were caught in a compromising position in their home. In a string of angry posts, one of them read:

When a man enters your house, gets intimate with your wife while your children are in the house knowing full well that you are the husband, and then publicises their pictures on social media for the world to see. What is to happen? Any thoughts?

A similar follow-up post read: When a man comes into your home and shares a bed with your wife, what happens?"

It was later reported that Dandala moved out of their marital home.

When news surfaced that there was trouble in paradise for celebrity couple Black Coffee and Enhle Mbali a mere few seasons after they had renewed their vows in a lavish ceremony in Sun City, South Africans expressed shock that the marriage that had still made them believe in fairytales was a mirage that had gone bust.

Enhle's followers on social media platforms were shocked when she claimed that she and her two kids were living in the dark after their electricity was cut off due to unpaid bills by Black Coffee who took to Twitter to rebut her story. He posted:

Stop lying!!! The lies are too much. I won’t be quiet anymore. The children you publicly claim to be protecting are suffering because of your lifestyle. It brought me so much pain to watch your videos making fun of this situation with the kids, they honestly don't deserve it.

Confirming their separation, the Grammy-award winner went on to explain that he took care of the kids' school needs and even bought Enhle a car after their separation. He added that he gave her R65 000 monthly to take care of household bills. He told his followers he was going to settle the bill one last time for the sake of the kids but warned Enhle to pay her own bills. The saga between the lovers divided their fans as some sided with Enhle and some with Black Coffee.

Last August, South Africans got the shock of their lives when unrepentant Lwandle Ndaba, the son of popular actress Sophie Ndaba, released a diss track on his social media platforms, that soon went viral, accusing businessman Max Lichaba of cheating on his mum.

The song made defamatory allegations against his stepfather and involved claims of abuse and that his mother's fortunes were also dried up by the businessman, a claim that Lichaba denied, as he promised to sue. Parts of the angry and salacious lyrics on the songs said:

You are the reason mama fell into depression. You used her for fame and money. You got it all and left us with nothing.

Explaining why he resorted to this action, this is what Lwandle said in his statement:

As a child witnessing the painful past few years, I have found a way to channel my pain and frustration after watching my mother’s health and finances go on a downward spiral due to the actions of her significant other, my stepfather, Mr Max Lichaba. I saw the journey that my mother went through and I am expressing my feelings through music as I study music performance. I was hurt, and I experienced trauma.

Max vehemently denied he had ever abused Sophie or any woman and told the media he was also a good father to Lwandle as he had also invested heavily in his music career by buying him studio equipment. He added that he was the father who taught Lwandle how to drive.

Remember when Scoop said it was like the work of a hacker?

While Twitter got excited that the man who usually delivers scoops in his TV presenting gigs was himself part of the scoop when a series of angry tweets claiming his girlfriend cheated on him emerged in 2019. Siyabonga "Scoop Makhathini" Ngwekazi was at pains to convince his followers that his account was hacked.

Several of his high-profile celebrity friends took to Twitter to support Scoop's assertion that his account was indeed hacked and that the series of tweets, which included a post of the girlfriend and another man in a club in a cosy embrace, was the work of a sneaky hacker who was trying to cause harm to the actor-cum presenter. Their explanations fell on deaf ears as Scoop trended for days, with his followers demanding an explanation about the images posted.
