At SABC offices across the country, more than 3 000 staff members were stunned last week when they received emails warning them of looming retrenchments, which will affect at least 600 employees.

The email was not clear about which divisions would be affected by the redundancies. But City Press has learnt that talk in the SABC corridors is that the news department and employees who are 50 and older could be the hardest hit.
