As the country marks 47 years since the brutal killing of the famous Hector Pieterson by the apartheid regime police, allegations surfaced that his tomb is uncared for and dilapidated.

To follow the journalism verification code of ethics, on Thursday, City Press went to his place of rest at Avalon Cemetery in Soweto and discovered that the allegations were not accurate. Although his gravestone did not stand out from the rest, our team of reporters witnessed that it was not run down.
