Any minor above the age of 10 who is found guilty of bullying a peer at school can be sentenced to imprisonment. In addition, children do not need the consent of their parents or guardians to apply for a protection order at the magistrates’ court against a peer who is bullying them. This law was passed in order to prevent the victims of bullying from resorting to suicide, since they can find no support or protection.
