The predatory behaviour of smaller parties and poor legislative framework regulating coalitions will need close attention if stable governance is to be restored in the long term in municipalities with no clear majority.
This is according to governance and political experts looking into the phenomenon of coalition governments, which have increased in number significantly throughout the country since the 2016 and the 2021 local government elections, with various municipalities plagued by instability due to political power struggles and frequent changes of coalition partners controlling hung councils.
