Mokopane Ledwaba is the founder and CEO of Ledjoy, a South African high-end watch boutique whose aim is to inspire and celebrate the resilience of its customers.

Born and raised in Ga-Mashashane, a rural area on the outskirts of Polokwane in Limpopo, Ledwaba moved to Germiston in Gauteng, where he set up shop in 2019.

Ledwaba tells City Press that he has always been passionate about watches and other accessories.

So, he created a brand that tells stories of African resilience.

Ledjoy watches are made with a Miyota movement, a reliable mechanism imported from Japan.

The mechanism has a power-saving function that detects motion and automatically saves up to 30% of energy.

This increases the lifespan of the watches and makes them ecofriendly.

Ledwaba says he sources his materials from trusted suppliers and evaluates every timepiece thoroughly for at least eight months before releasing it to the market.

Big face Local watch brand Ledjoy was launched in 2019.

He admits the watch industry is competitive and unpredictable, especially due to the unstable economy and the ever-changing trends influenced by social media personalities.

However, he believes Ledjoy has an edge over its competitors because it caters to the African market and reflects its pride and identity.

“We have an opportunity to be Africa’s pride [and to become] the biggest [watch] boutique on the continent.”

Ledwaba plans to expand his business to reach more customers across Africa and beyond.

He also wants to diversify and offer accessories to complement his watches.

Ledwaba is grateful to his family, friends and loyal customers’ support and shared vision.
