After a seven year sabbatical and ongoing “bring back BBM” requests, one of the most loved reality shows Big Brother Mzansi (BBM) returned to our screens with 18 housemates, all between the ages of 21 and 32, on Sunday evening.
Actor and presenter Lawrence Maleka has replaced Lungile Radu as the show host.
“Congratulations to the new housemates on an experience like no other, and one that will undoubtedly change many of their lives. We wish them well in the house. We’re excited to have the show back on air as it’s something viewers have been anticipating,” said Shirley Adonisi, director of local entertainment channels at M-Net.

Although people were glued to their screens to watch the BBM premier, was it worth the wait?
The contestants’ floral, tropical and beach themed fashion sense was lampooned and viewers questioned “who got the tender” to dress them as they looked underwhelming as if the wardrobe department had put in zero effort.
Big Brother’s voice did not sound as commanding as it did in the previous two seasons and the housemates could not hear him clearly.
It would also have been nice to have a little kasi flavour as was seen with Ntombi and Ace in the second season of the show.
For the love of BBM – viewers understand that the housemates may have watched too much of BBNaija – but they are looking for originality and the Nigerian accent needs to stop.

The lack of racial diversity in the Big Brother house was another trending topic, with some complaining that it was “too black”.

That is the overview for the first few hours of BBM season 3. Hopefully the first few hours of seasons three was just the nerves and everyone finding their feet. We shall give it time and assess improvement. The show will be televised 24/7 on channel 198 with evictions every Sunday for the next three months.
The winner will walk away with R2 million.
