Marketing agency Roth Media Group has been thrown into the fire for failing to pay popular influencer Mihlali Ndamase R50 000 for working on a premium alcohol brand, Malfy Gin.
The agency, which is owned by entrepreneur Rorisang Setlogelo, was named and shamed by the influencer and model on Saturday after it allegedly failed to pay her the money, which was an outstanding payment for being the influencer of Italian booze brand Malfy Gin earlier this year.
Pernod Ricard, the company that owns the alcohol brand, said it sub-contracted Setlogelo’s agency to handle Ndamase’s influence campaign on its behalf and handle all payments related to her.
Pernod Ricard’s head of communication Evita van Aswegen said Setlogelo’s company reassured her that the popular influencer, who is also a Forbes list 30 under 30 listee, had been paid in full as of Thursday morning. However, she added that their legal team had been roped in to see the process through.
Van Aswegen said:
“It is indeed disconcerting that influencers, who we rely on to represent our brands in public, are not fairly and timeously compensated for services contractually agreed to,” van Aswegen said.
On Saturday morning, Ndamase called out several brands on her Instagram page for alleged non-payment for ambassador services rendered. Ndamase was subcontracted by Malfy Gin for the first half of the year to be the influencer for the gin.

Setlogelo had not yet replied to a request for confirmation by the time of publishing.
Ndamase, who boasts a following of two million on Instagram and 1,2 million on Twitter, dragged Malfy Gin and two other brands, Vodacom and Saint Lounge in Cape Town, on Saturday for allegedly owing her.
She tagged Malfy Gin on Instagram and said: “Hayike sana, months of not paying me as a brand ambassador. Can we talk? Bigger person ushonile, I want my money.”
Ndamase did not answer her phone for comment.
