Actress Dawn Thandeka King suffered a knee injury last year that has kept her away from the set of Mzansi Magic’s DiepCity since October. She is now fully recovered and has reprised her role as Thandiwe.
King, of SABC 1’s Uzalo fame, said: “The injury happened during a fighting scene on set. My foot twisted and my knee ligament tore. It was just one of those unfortunate incidents.”
She expressed great joy at being back at work and described it as feeling more like herself again.
King recounted her experience of getting back to performance health.
King recalled the most challenging experience was not being able to move freely.
“Most of the time, I would sit on my bed, which caused me to be depressed. Some days I struggled. I would cry and not want to talk to anyone. My kids helped me a lot, they made sure that I was happy. My partner was also very helpful. My helper also looked after me and assisted me with a lot of things. I am grateful that I had a support system in my family.”
She was not working during this time as her condition wouldn’t allow for strenuous movement. She tried to go back but it made matters worse, so she bowed out of work for the rest of the year.
“I am grateful that my production company, Blackbrain, took care of me at this time. I really appreciate them for that,” said King.
She started shooting DiepCity in March.
“The storyline on DiepCity is very interesting and intense. All I can say is that the audience must not miss a single episode.”
There wasn’t much mention of her role at SABC’s Uzalo and the general feeling around her involvement with that show has been uncertain for some time.

King did, however, miss the thrill of creating stories to entertain audiences.
She added: “I missed my colleagues and my directors. The crazy things we do on set really make our work exciting.”
Rumours are making the rounds that King will venture into different kinds of television shows.
She explained:
