If you are a fan of true crime documentaries, you will want to mark your calendar for May 8 2023.

That's when Showmax will launch Imibuzo, a new series that will explore some of the most shocking and controversial crimes that rocked South Africa in the past decade.

Imibuzo, which means 'questions' in isiZulu, will take a deep dive into the stories behind the headlines, featuring interviews with witnesses, experts, journalists and even some of the perpetrators themselves.

Each episode will focus on a different case, from the murder of rap star Flabba to the trial of pastor Tim Omotoso.

The first episode will look at the tragic death of Nkululeko Habedi, aka Flabba, who was stabbed by his girlfriend Sindisiwe Manqele in 2015.

Manqele claimed self-defence but was convicted of murder and sentenced to 12 years in prison. She was released on parole last year. The episode will feature exclusive interviews with Flabba's family, friends and fellow members of Skwatta Kamp, the award-winning hip-hop group he belonged to.

Other episodes will cover the murder of Tshegofatso Pule, who was eight months pregnant when she was killed by a hitman hired by her boyfriend Ntuthuko Shoba in 2020. Shoba was recently sentenced to life imprisonment for his role in the crime.

The Enyobeni Tavern massacre, where 21 people were gunned down by unknown assailants in 2016, also feature.

Many of the victims were underage and had been drinking at the illegal shebeen in Khayelitsha. The motive for the attack remains unclear and no arrests have been made.

The murder of Lindokuhle Cele, an LGBTQIA+ activist and musician who was stabbed 21 times by Mvuyisi Noguda in 2020, will also be covered. Noguda confessed to killing Cele because he was gay and had allegedly made advances towards him. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 25 years in jail.

The is also the case of Sibusiso Mpungose, who killed his four children in 2019. Mpungose hanged his three biological children and his stepdaughter after suspecting his wife of having an affair. He was found guilty of four counts of murder and sentenced to four life terms.
