A new locally created product by Tastelab will fancify your gin and tonics, cocktails and soft drinks. Secco Drink Infusion sachets are individually packaged flash-frozen fruits and spices that you simply add to your favourite drink. They come in varieties such as ginger lime, pepper berry, raspberry rose hibiscus and spiced pomegranate. #Trending tried them out and here’s what we thought:

LOVED IT
Hmmm... This really grew on me. I tried out the ginger lime sachet and it consisted of a flash-frozen wedge of lime, a segment of ginger and some cinnamon shards. The more I let it infuse in my gin and tonic the better. These are a little pricy, but they’ll sure make your drink the best-looking one at the party. Great to buy if you’re into that sort of thing. – Grethe Kemp

HATED IT
Don’t mess with my gin – it’s my favourite alcoholic beverage. It has character and history. In fact, Dutch courage stems from shots of Dutch gin being given out to troops before they stormed over the top of a trench during war times. I don’t imagine any of these soldiers stopping for a little silver packet of dried out flowers and fruits to add flavour. I’m no soldier, but I do have beef with all these cutie pie things people try to add to my beloved drink. I drew the line at that pink tonic, enough is enough. I don’t need trail mix in my drink, yeah. – Phumlani S Langa
