Musa Khawula returns and has summoned up the bravery to show his face on a new YouTube channel.

The self-proclaimed pope of pop culture, Musa Khawula, has returned after fading into obscurity for a brief moment. It was regrettably not long enough as he has picked up right where he left off.

His hiatus was driven by the suspension of his Twitter account after posting nude images of DJ and producer Lulo Café.

Now, he has a YouTube channel, probably trying to bolster against any changes Elon Musk might have planned for him and those similar to him on Twitter. His YouTube channel is performing well, and people are lapping it up.

It’s hard to say if this says more about his resilience - you know that insect that just won’t quit, no matter how much pesticide you spray on it or how many times you try to stomp on it - or perhaps we could view this as another instance that shows just how easy it is to bemuse the masses. One can only wonder.

Somehow, he has continued to avoid substantial prosecution, which could also allude to how feeble celebrity management can get in this country. If some uninformed attention seeker is taking shots at my client, a cease would be the least of Khawula’s worries.

His short presentation runs from anywhere between seven minutes to almost 20. He calls this "production" The Pope of Pop Culture and it shows him sitting on a pink couch with matching background, spilling tea.

It offers almost nothing in the way of production value with a poorly edited title bumper fitted with an annoying jingle. Khawula discusses celebrity news, and given his trademark for inaccuracies on his Twitter feed, we can only assume this will involve more of the same. He also safeguards against any retaliation by predominately keeping women in his crosshairs.

When last we touched on this bane of pop culture and the arts, he was alleging some foul claims against Durban-based comedian Felix Hlophe.

He also took aim at me, something about being a fat ass and not reporting on this, prompting me to simply lift the phone and get in touch with Hlophe and his representatives.

Hlophe and his wife rubbished Khawula’s report rather publicly and a few months later, the pope shrunk into a hole of silence.

Those of us who can’t stand this dude rejoiced, but it was short-lived. His channel has over 29 000 subscribers with his best-performing video pulling in 38 000 views.
