Reeva Steenkamp’s family has given a new three-part documentary series a nod.

The series about the life of the model and media personality will premiere on M-Net later in August.

Steenkamp was shot and killed by her boyfriend, fallen icon and athlete, Oscar Pistorius. He shot her through a bathroom door on Valentine’s Day in 2013.

Her life will be immortalised in this docuseries titled My Name is Reeva.

It is said to be an emotive and sensitively told story.

The docuseries is said to "breathe life into Reeva’s existence through intimate interviews with her parents, as well as close friends and family, showing the kind of woman she was in the prime of her life."

Two-time Safta-nominated director, producer and writer Warren Batchelor of WB Productions directed this project. It is produced by David Taylor and written by Safta winner Justin Strydom.

Steenkamp’s parents, Barry and June Steenkamp, say:

We fully endorse Warren and his team to bring out the truth in this documentary and show the world who Reeva really was.

Cactus Tree Entertainment is involved in the production of this docuseries, which will be broadcast across Africa.

The co-presidents of the production house, Benn Watson and Liz Levenson, say: “Too often, and especially in this case, the victims of crimes are overlooked. Along with our amazing production partners and the Steenkamp family, we are honoured to be able to bring this story to screen.”

The documentary will also touch on Pistorius’ quest to make parole just seven years after his conviction.

This process involves an encounter with Steenkamp’s parents. The possibility of his parole created a media frenzy only rivalled by the initial reports of what had transpired between Pistorius and Steenkamp.

“As Barry and June seek justice for their daughter and having agreed to an audience with Pistorius ahead of the parole hearing, they want answers: why did this senseless murder happen at all?

“My Name is Reeva attempts to answer this question, but more importantly, it tells the true story of Reeva: her triumphs in the face of adversity,” M-Net added.

My name is Reeva will debut at 8:30pm on August 25.
