Award-winning musician Vusi Nova (Vusimuzi Nongxa) is set to let his fans and supporters into his life with his 13-part reality show. Vusi Nova Unprovoked will showcase the musician’s life of fame, his decision to take on a life-changing spiritual journey, his business ventures and being a grandfather.

Speaking to City Press this week, the award-winning muso said he was nervous about how South Africans would receive the show, as he had given enough of himself through music.

He explained that, during his career, several television channels had, on more than one occasion, approached him with the idea of having a reality show, but he cited his need for privacy as the reason he had constantly declined.

“It is scary as hell [because] I’m a private person. I just decided, let me do it because people have been curious about my life, so let me let them, in just this once,” said the singer.

I’m known as the guy who sings love songs. Now, all of a sudden, people are going to see all my other sides. People are going to say, ‘like really, is this guy like this?’, so I’m worried if people are going to be okay with my personality and who I really am.

He assured fans that his show was “as real as it can be because he opened up a lot”.

“It’s so real, and that is what is so scary about it. I can’t help but be fearful of what is going to come out. There is so much drama in there. Shooting the show was a lot; you know, when you are going through so many different things with family, friends and life in general, and there’s cameras there. It was frustrating and annoying. Sometimes, I would tell them to get out, because it was just too much, but I’m happy that we went through it and people will get to know me better.”

A little peep into the show teases that the singer is now a grandfather and is mastering the role with ease. Among his work, family and friends, the show also features Nongxa’s house manager a lot.

I can’t live without him. He cooks, he cleans, he buys groceries and does everything around here. I can’t do anything without Dezz (Desmond). People should just watch the show, they will see.

Media personality Somizi Mhlongo, the singer’s friend, is also expected to make an appearance in the show. A loss and an unusual funeral are teased, with a firing and hiring scene, while he also takes on therapy.

The reality show, which will air every Saturday at 8pm on SABC1, starting on 2 March, is set to remind the Ndikuthandile hitmaker’s fans that, despite his glitz and glamour life, he remains “a Xhosa man at heart”, and he is “deeply connected to his cultural roots”.
