The Market theatre and US Mission in South Africa commemorate Black History Month with the South African premiere of Nina Simone Four Women, directed by James Ngcobo. In 1963, after the bombing of a Baptist church in Alabama, US, Nina Simone shifted her career from artist to artist-activist.

Nina Simone Four Women by Christina Ham follows a group of women fuelled by self-hatred due to the shades of their skin. These matriarchs carry their songs of praise and protest to unite and cast out the demon of segregation.
