It feels like just yesterday that the 2022 Grammy Awards took place, and now we have a full list of Grammy nominees for the 2023 edition of the biggest music award show in history.

The year 2022 was a big one for the academy and included winners, such as Silk Sonic, a music duo, including singers Anderson Paak and Bruno Mars. The duo took home a whopping four Grammy awards for their self-titled album. Breakout star Olivia Rodrigo also took home the best new artist award, to the surprise of many, and rap extraordinaire Tyler the Creator took home the coveted best rap album award.

This time around, the heat is definitely on, as the list of nominees makes it near impossible not to want to tune in when the time comes.

This year had some historic music moments. The 1980s pop group Abba made a legendary comeback and released their first album in 40 years called Voyage. The iconic album consisted of 10 songs and was a new-age tape, reminiscent of their well-deserved days in the spotlight, and it seems like their comeback is paying off, as their song Don’t Shu Me Down has been nominated for record of the year.

Speaking of comebacks, the queen of R&B, Mary J Blige, made a comeback of sorts, with the release of her latest album Good Morning Gorgeous. Aside from her dancing, which made meme gold, the last time the Be Without You hitmaker released music was in 2017, and the release of her latest album five years on makes it feel like she never left. Disco diva Diana Ross is also nominated for best traditional pop vocal album for her release of Thank You, which came at the end of 2021.

Pop singer Lizzo has also been pushing boundaries over the last few years. Her bold and unapologetic take on music saw her become one of the first plus-size pop singers, and her Grammy nod for her hit single About Damn Time for the 2023 Grammy’s has solidified her place as pop royalty.

African stars, including Nigeria's Burno Boy, who headlined this year's Dstv Delicious Festival in Johannesburg, as well as Beninese star Angélique Kidjo are both nominated for Best Global Music Album.
