The new release from Gabriel Horowitz, more affectionately known as Archi, is setting the foundations for the artist to become one of the country’s most interesting musical exports.

The artist's new EP Sentimental Tones is finally out, and we got an exclusive listen to what Horowitz has to offer this time around.

READ: Inside the complex mind of Archi

The last time we spoke to Horowitz, we got into the complex mind of this artist, who seemed to have a deep understanding of music and how to perfectly blend the different genres in his music together.

It seems he has been bringing forward a new kind of sound, one that challenges the status quo once again. The 22-year-old's early introduction to music makes him a tough competitor in the alternative scene.

The Sentimental Tones EP comprises five glorious tracks, each sounding different and building from the song that played before. Throughout his short career, Horowitz has displayed a strange approach to music, his deep understanding of tone, texture, pitch, vocal dynamics and genre being some of his greatest assets.

Similarly, within the folds of Sentimental Tones, we are thrust into a vortex of his complex understanding of music and encompassed by the absolute newness of his experimental sound.

The EP begins with the song Say No More, which features Fiji Mageba and Steveisfrench, who both elevate the song, breathe new life into Archi’s sound and set the tone for the rest of the EP.

A major jazz influence is heard within the song, along with complex piano chords, vocal notes and harmonies that can only be manufactured by someone who has impeccable vocal control. Say No More perfectly describes Horowitz's passion for his music and the respect he has for his musical journey.

Horowitz released his first instalment of his EP a few days ago, with a single titled Bonez.

While the song begins with an eclectic collection of sounds and vocals, its pivot into a rap offering from Steveisfrench, who has been rising within the alternative hip-hop scene for the last few years, provides another perfect metamorphosis to our understanding of the EP, one that continues to grow throughout the length of the project.

The EP takes us through a certain ethereal journey, with tracks three to five being sole offerings from Horowitz, who tells us a deeper story about his life and the value he places in the tones of his music.

Sentimental Tones sounds something like the drug trips you hear about in films and on TV, where there is complete space for the process of self-actualisation, where you are thrown away from yourself and forced to find a semblance of honesty within yourself, about who you are, what you’ve been through and the things that you want.

It’s clear that Sentimental Tones was not only intended to be cathartic for Horowitz, but also for us to experience that same catharsis for ourselves and in our own way.  The EP is available on all streaming platforms.
