Umkhokha and Shaka Ilembe actress Hope Mbhele has been announced as one of the SA Music Awards (Samas) hosts. The 29th edition of the awards ceremony will take place on Saturday at the SunBet Arena at Time Square in Pretoria, in collaboration with Africa Fest.

Speaking to City Press on Thursday, the former Gagasi FM presenter said this was what she had always wanted to do.

She said:

Hosting has been a strong passion of mine ever since I was a child. I’m truly grateful to the Samas for considering me for this prestigious event, and I’ll definitely enjoy myself rubbing shoulders with industry heavyweights. It’s one of my many dreams come true.

She said that since she had cemented herself as a radio and TV presenter, as well as an actress, it was challenging and seamless at the same time, adding:

“When you love something, you always find time for it, and that’s how my life has been.

I’m excited to see all the nominees and speak to them, including Sjava, Kabza, Ntokozo Mbambo, Mafikizolo and so much more. On the fashion side, I just want to see all the girls bringing colour and delight to us.

Mbhele will host the red carpet alongside Uzalo’s Thuthuka Mthembu, while radio and television hosts Nomalanga Shozi and DJ Sabby (Sabelo Mtshali) will dazzle the main event from 8pm.

Shozi, who is dealing with the recently surfaced drama between herself, Steve Madden and Bonang Matheba regarding a failed gig and money she has to pay back, said preparations and rehearsals had commenced, adding:

Preparations started a while ago because we were told some time back, but with things being on pause for a while, we kind of had to take a break, and then when they came back, we got right into it. People can expect new, fresh talent.

The presenter and actress said her 10 years in the industry would come in handy.

"A lot of people think I am fresh in this space, but I’ve been doing entertainment. My first job in radio was in 2013, so people will be taken by surprise because of my experience. I know what I’m doing, I just can’t wait to blow everybody away," said Shozi.

The presenter, who is currently hosting SABC1’s The Sauce, is also known for her impressive fashion style. She shared with City Press that she would rock a minimum of five looks, adding in excitement:

We are working on the looks; we are going to serve nothing but looks—look after look. Everybody that you can think of in SA fashion and couture will dress me.

RiSA CEO Nhlanhla Sibisi said:

"Hope Mbhele and Thuthuka Mthembu embody our philosophy of giving young fresh practitioners a platform to showcase their excellence. Curated meticulously, we have no doubt that these four will elevate the Samas experience to unprecedented heights. It will be unforgettable."

Sibisi added:

"DJ Sabby and Nomalanga Shozi are a dynamic duo impeccably positioned to ignite Samas29. Their infectious energy, magnetic charisma and profound connections within the South African entertainment landscape seamlessly align with the spirit of Samas29."

The ceremony will be aired live on SABC1 from 8pm.
